Integration Programme for Influenza Prevention among Community Elderly
2016 Study on Influenza Vaccination Strategy
(Project RETAIN)
Hong Kong is a subtropical city which usually experiences two flu peak seasons every year. The northern hemisphere flu shot is usually offered to the public starting in October every year before the expected winter peak, which starts in December in Hong Kong.

In 2015, two flu shots (the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere flu shots) were given within one year in Hong Kong, but this flu shot strategy has not been commonly used in Hong Kong. Therefore, the School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong is now doing this study, to be recruiting approximately 400 older adults, to see if this new flu shot strategy (two flu shots in one year) produce better protection from flu in your body than the normal practice (one flu shot per year) for Hong Kong older adults.
